Whether you are designing a new bathroom or want to make a few changes in the existent one, one of the most important things to consider is the type of vanity unit you want to choose. Except for being the most commonly used item in the bathroom, choosing one can show off your personal style, which means that you should carefully consider all of the options on the market before making any decision.

Before choosing the right type, first you'll need to decide on whether you need a vanity with single or double basin. Once done, you can proceed to the next important thing which is considering the components of a bathroom sink vanity unit.

Generally speaking, the base of a vanity unit usually provides a storage space which size depends on your needs. Drawers, shelves, cupboards and pull-outs are one of the most common things a bathroom sink vanity unit could have. In case you don't need that much of storage space, the base of your vanity unit can be more decorative than functional. Above the vanity base, there is a countertop which can be made of different materials. Consequently, bathroom countertops are available in a range of colours and finishes but the thing you should look for is one that is hard-wearing and easy to clean in order to withstand the everyday use. However, one of the most commonly used materials for bathroom countertops are hardwoods, granites, marble and quartz out of which the last two types are more expensive.

The last part of a bathroom vanity unit is the basin that can be placed into or on top of the countertop. Just like the countertop and vanity unit itself, basins can be made from different materials out of which ceramic, stone, copper and even glass basins are the most popular ones over the last few years.

Except for this, there are some other important things you should consider when looking for the right bathroom vanity unit. A vanity unit can be a freestanding unit that comes in a range of materials, sizes and styles, and it's well-known for the spacious feeling it gives. Built-in and fitted vanity units, on the other hand, can be fitted to the walls of the room, while the wall-mounted ones give a “floating” impression, ideal for modern and contemporary types of bathrooms. You can also opt for a corner vanity unit which is mainly designed for smaller types of bathrooms with limited free space.
